President's Update February 2023

As we head into the Spring 2023 I wanted to provide an update to all parents, coaches, and players.  The FALL Board has been very busy making tweaks to our program to enhance player experience and skill growth.  The Fall Board has carefully considered and discussed these changes with the ultimate goal of building a safe, fun, and rewarding experience for all FALL players no matter what skill level.  Our goal is to get Folsom kids to play baseball, understand and thrive in a team atmosphere, and allow for growth well into their High School years.  We hope they love playing baseball as much as we love watching them grow!

This year we have over 610 Little Leaguer’s.  The FALL Board is working hard to provide the best experience possible for all of them!

All players have been placed on teams except for T-Ball, which should be finalized next week. Some teams may choose to have blacktop practices through February, and we hit the fields March 1st. NO ONFILED ACTIVITES UNTIL MARCH 1st.  Full season schedules will be released no later than February 22nd. Those will be made available through our website and the Game Changer App if your team uses GC.

TLDR:

  • We are fielding 6 upper division teams including 3 in the new 50/70 division

  • AAA will have a District tournament of champions (TOC) tournament this year

  • End of Season Tournament (EOST) Rule Change to Continuous Batting Order (CBO)

  • 2 new Code of Conduct’s (COC) to supplement our Parent COC added this year

  • Property Players will be eliminated after the Spring 2023 season.

  • 5 potential Allstar teams

Upper Division Growth:

50/70

This Year will be the 1st year we have a 50/70 (intermediate) divisionWe piloted this program thinking we’d get 1 teamClearly, we underestimated to need and will field 3 teams this yearThe 50/70 division is a great way to transition to the larger field size in Juniors.

Juniors

I am also happy to report we will be fielding 3 Juniors teams this year.  This is also significant growth in the Juniors division.  We have also changed our bylaws to allow League age 15s to play in Juniors, extending eligibility to a group who was previously aged out.

AAA District 54 Tournament of Champions:

With the help of Folsom National, and El Dorado Hills LL the AAA division will have a tournament to battle for a District ChampionshipDetails to come, but the 3 leagues will host this tournament at their premier sitesMac1 will host the championship game in JuneLet’s bring home the AAA pennant to FALL!

End of Season Tournament Rule Change:

We have adjusted our End of Season Tournament play style to replicate the District TOC, and Allstar tournaments.  Starting this spring we will implement a Continuous Batting Order (CBO).  All rostered kids will bat with open field substitution (other than pitchers).  All players will also be required to play 6 defensive outs.  This will better prepare teams for the District TOC.  Be advised TOC’s and Allstars do not have the field play requirement.

Code of conducts:

This Year the Fall Board has taken the proactive step to implement 2 new code of conducts (COC) Our parent COC has not been updated and is signed  is in the registration process (also you can review the Parent COC (here).  In addition, we have added a Manager/Coach COC, and a Player COC.  The COC’s have been implemented to layout the expectations of our respective roles as Parents, Coaches, and Players.  I see them as a building block to get the best out of the Little League Experience.  Any questions about the COC’s can be direct to me [email protected] or Jason Pagan [email protected] .

Elimination of Property Players in Majors Division:

The Spring 2023 season will be the last year of Property Players in MajorsProtected Manager and Coach players will still be in placeOur goal with this is to simplify and streamline the draft process while increasing team parity in the majors divisionOur property player team placement method has also been removed from Little League International’s approved draft methods. Once again, we believe this change will Increase team parity, align us to approved draft procedures, and simplify drafts.

2023 Allstar Team:

This Sumer we will have the flexibility to field 5 Allstar teams! Allstar is a highly competitive tournament where teams have the opportunity to represent FALL in the district and beyond.  We are hoping to field teams in 9/10U, 11U, 12U, 13U, 14U.  We will have more details when registration opens in April. If you would like to Manage or Coach an Allstar team please see the bylaws ARTICLE XIV ALL STAR TEAM SELECTION for details.   If you are making summer travel plans please keep in mind Allstar commitments run from early June through July, and beyond if we keep winning. If you are wondering the 12U tournament(s) feed into the Little League World Series in Williamsport PA in August.

I cannot express how grateful I am for the FALL board and the time they have put in to make FALL a premier experience for all our playersWe look forward to seeing everyone out there this season!

Best,

Jason Anderson
